Samsung SUPER SD cards

If you ever wanted your SD or
microSD card to stand up to more
extreme conditions, Samsung is
releasing a line of memory cards
that the company claims can
withstand serious abuse. This new
line of cards is guaranteed to
survive being submerged in water
for up to 24 hours, being run over
by a 3,200 pound vehicle, or resist
a magnetic current nearly as
strong as medical magnets. As for
more traditional memory card
specs, Samsung's offering both SD
and microSD in two varieties. The
"high speed" series offers read
speeds varying from 15MB/s to
24MB/s and write speeds ranging
from seven to 13MB/s, depending
on capacity, while the "plus
extreme speed" series offers read
speeds of 24MB/s and write
speeds of 21MB/s. The slower
models come in capacities ranging
from 2GB to 32GB, while the "plus
extreme speed" series are only
available in 8GB and 16GB
capacities.
The speed and rugged nature of
these cards won't come cheap,
though — the "plus extreme
speed" series will set you back
$29.99 for 8GB or $54.99 for 16GB.
If you're not in need of the higher
write speeds, the "high speed"
series ranges from $9.99 for a 2GB
card up to $89.99 for the 32GB
model. At least these high prices
also buy you a brushed metal
exterior — and thanks to their
waterproof nature, they might go
well with that Pantech Element
you've been eyeing.
