Pros And Cons Of Jailbreakring, Rooting and flashing

Now when most people purchase their devices, whether it be Android, Symbian, iOS, Java you name it, they look for features which they feel their the default configuration of their device doesn't give them so they decide to tweak it. Am not saying doing this is illegal or anything(Hell the US government considers jailbreaking as totally legal). But before you go ahead messing with your device's ROM or OS, I suggest you take a look at the ups and downs, Good and bad side, Pros and cons whatever you call it. I'll be as concise as possible. So here goes:
I'll start with rooting on the Android Platform
Now there are a lot of things to consider when getting a custom ROM for Android. If you don't understand rooting on Android, Please do not try it. I'll suggest you watch a lot of tutorials, read a lot of tutorials and ask those who have done i t and it worked for them or else you could either underclock it or overclock  it which would lead to over heating or explosion in extreme cases.
Moving on to Symbian.
On the symbian platform, the least that could happen is you lose you files, default apps and warranty. But the worst is that the slightest mistake you make while flashing you Symbian device could brick it. But hey it also has its up-sides which are a better UI that the native Firm Ware, some CFW(Custom Firm Wares) come with all the Blackberry symbols so no need to copy and paste them anymore. You could aslo have a live home screen. So weigh your options before installing a CFW.
Moving on to the iOS platform.
First things first, Apple has fought tooth-and-nail to make Jailbreaking illegal but to no avail so they decided to get back at those who jailbreak their iDevices by voiding their warranty the moment they jailbreak it. But people look outside the apple app store for apps so they continue  jailbreaking regardless of the void warranty. When you jail break your device, you have access to Cydia, an appstore for jailbroken devices.

Though jail breaking is "illegal" to apple, Cydia makes it up to you by providing splendid apps but this comes with a price which could either be reduced battery life, hanging altogether leading to mal-functioning of your device. So I'll give the same advice again: Don't try this if you don't know how to.
